Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Release a Statement About Prince Philip's Death
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have joined other members of the royal family in releasing a personal statement about the passing of Harry's grandfather, Prince Philip. The couple, who currently lives in California with their son Archie, released the following statement through their Archewell website:
News of Philip's death broke early on Friday morning (April 9), with Buckingham Palace confirming he passed away peacefully at home in Windsor Castle:
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course.”
Royal reporter Rebecca English notes that the duke's funeral plans were made in consultation with him decades ago, but they will likely need to be revised due to the coronavirus pandemic. It's unclear if Prince Harry and Meghan, who is currently pregnant with the couple's second child, will be able to fly to England for Philip's funeral given travel restrictions.
