The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently on a royal tour of South Africa with their nearly 5-month-old son, Archie. And although he has yet to make an official appearance (see: that part about him being 5 months old), his parents are opening up about their life as a family of three.
While visiting Waves for Change, a surf therapy nonprofit that serves at-risk youth, the duchess was asked to reveal a strength. What did she pick? “She said parenting is the new strength that she and Harry are learning,” an onlooker told People.
Luckily, she’s got a good partner by her side. “He’s the best dad,” she said of the duke. The feeling was mutual, as Harry retorted, “No, she’s the best mom.”
The Archie questions didn’t stop there. At an afternoon tea in the Bo Kaap neighborhood of Cape Town, Markle admitted that life with a newborn is (expectedly) hectic. “Our plate is full with a 5-month-old at the moment—so busy,” she said.
Especially when you take him on such a journey. Yesterday, when a woman in the crowd asked where Archie was, Markle replied, “He’s sleeping!”
Earlier, paparazzi captured the royal family exiting from their plane. Archie, held in his mother’s arms, looked cozy in a pom-pom hat.
It’s set to be a jam-packed 10-day tour for the family, with Prince Harry also visiting Botswana, Angola, and Malawi. The duchess will focus on issues such as female empowerment, women’s education, and gender violence. The prince is promoting conservation initiatives as well as land mine removal (a signature cause of Princess Diana). But if the past two days are any indication, the Sussexes will be in high spirits as they’re on the move.
