What Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Name Their Second Child?

Fans have a number of ways to show their excitement about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's second child. For some, it's sharing digital well-wishes for the happy couple, who announced on Valentine's Day that they were expecting a new little brother or sister for their son Archie. For others, royal baby fever takes a slightly more speculative—and possibly even lucrative—form: trying to predict the name of the next member of the royal family.
There's a long tradition of fans betting on big moments in the royal family—back when Harry and Meghan announced they were pregnant with Archie in 2018, betting sites began taking wagers on everything from the baby's gender and birth weight, to the day of the week it would be born, and whether or not the child would have Harry's signature red hair.
Within days of Meghan's pregnancy announcement, Gambling.com released the news that Prince Harry's mother's name, Diana, was already a frontrunner among betting fans as a possible name for their second born with 10-to-1 odds. Similarly, UK-based site Betfair has Diana at the top of their list. As is to be expected, family names are a popular source of speculation—both sites show fans favoring names like Thomas (presumably after Meghan's father), Albert (a name with a long history in the royal family, dating back to Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert), and Spencer (Princess Diana's maiden name.)
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have certainly proven that they are dedicated to Princess Diana's legacy. They paid tribute to her at their wedding with their choice in flowers, and they even used gems from her personal collection to craft Meghan's engagement ring. The Sussexes' announcement of the new pregnancy came 37 years to the day that Diana's announcement she was pregnant with Harry hit the papers. However, Prince William's daughter Princess Charlotte's middle names is already Diana, so even if the baby is a girl, Harry and Meghan might opt for something else.
Of course, if nothing else, the Sussexes choice of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor for their son's name proves their willingness to break from tradition, and fans do seem to be taking that into account. Among the ranks of "Philip" and "Alice," Betfair's ranks also include some more esoteric options, including Kamala at 17-to-1 odds, Godfrey at 50-to-1, and Boris at 201-to-1.
