Royal fans have been guessing what name Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would give their daughter for weeks now, and the royal couple's choice couldn't have been sweeter or more special. Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor is named after both Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana—but Harry actually hinted he loved the nickname "Lili" years ago.

As People notes, Harry and Meghan visited school children in the town of Birkenhead when Meghan was pregnant with Archie in 2019, and Harry ended up asking a mother how she spelled her daughter Lily's name.

Harry and Meghan spoke about the significance of Lilibet's name in her birth announcement on the Archewell website, saying:

"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."

They also released a personal message of thanks for the good wishes:

“On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Meanwhile, the Queen expressed her excitement about Lili in a post on Instagram, writing "Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lilibet Diana! The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news. Lilibet is Her Majesty’s 11th great-grandchild."
