Prince Charles Reportedly Never Gave Princess Diana Flowers

In a reveal that is sure to comprise at least a three episode arc on the forthcoming Diana-and-Charles season of Ryan Murphy’s Feud, Prince Charles apparently never gave Princess Diana a single flower. That’s right, throughout the duration of their marriage, he did not gift her with one rose, not one tulip, nary a daffodil.
We have learned this juicy detail thanks to Paul Costelloe, Diana’s personal designer, who worked for the late princess for 15 years. Costelloe said, in a new interview with the Sunday Times, that Diana would always appear “thrilled” when he would bring flowers with him to the palace for fittings. “I would go to Kensington Palace and bring her a bunch of flowers each time. She was so thrilled. I don’t think [Charles] ever gave her a flower.”

So, yeah, it’s technically possible that Charles would deluge Diana with flowers during the weeks Costelloe wasn’t around, but, since this guy was making visits to the palace for 15 years, and presumably knew Diana quite well, one would imagine he has a pretty good idea of what went on! Adding royal insult to royal injury, Charles was also—the Daily Mail reminds us—“known for his love of gardening” and “poured his ‘heart and soul’ into transforming” the grounds around his house. (Diana reportedly was uninterested in Charles’s gardening, as the palace’s head gardener has said, “If you bumped into her there, she had her head down and kept going.”)
And that’s not the only dig Costelloe had for Charles. He also remarked that Charles was, apparently, hesitant to pay for some of Diana’s clothes. “My other most amazing work was for Diana,” he said. “I got paid well there – nice little cheques, signed by Prince Charles – probably reluctantly.”
Costelloe—who received attention in 2015 when he criticized Kate Middleton’s style, calling it “disappointing” and “not as individual as Princess Diana”—still works with members of the royal family, including Princess Ann and Zara Tindall, Charles’s niece.
