'The Price Is Right' Has Stopped Filming New Episodes Because of Coronavirus Pandemic
As announced on Thursday, The Price Is Right will suspend filming for the next two weeks due to the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The popular gameshow's production company, Freemantle, released the following statement to Deadline when announcing the news:
"Due to the ongoing global situation around COVID-19, we have been working closely with our production teams and network partners to take measures to help minimize the risk of exposure to our cast, crew and live audiences ... As live audiences are integral to the format of 'The Price Is Right' we will be suspending production for the short term ... We will continue to closely monitor the situation and determine the appropriate time to resume normal course of business."
The temporary shutdown of The Price is Right comes after fellow game shows such as Jeopardy! and Wheel Of Fortune announced this week that they would continue filming, but without a studio audience. As many fans know, this isn't an option for The Price Is Right as a huge focus of the show is audience interaction.
As of right now, the next available date to buy tickets to a Price Is Right taping is March 30, but that is subject to change.
So, what does this mean in terms of tuning into The Price Is Right every weekday morning? It's possible that despite the production disruption, fans of the show will still get to watch new episodes. According to the show's calendar, March 16th's episode was filmed way back in December. What's more, TV Guide is still listing Monday's episode as "NEW."
Price Is Right episodes are typically taped months in advance of their airdates, with host Drew Carey and the rest of the Price Is Right crew filming two to three episodes per day. In other words, CBS probably has some episodes backlogged to air over the next two weeks. Just in case though, it's best to check your local listings to get the most up-to-date information on new episodes.
