'Twas quite a day at the White House on Tuesday as President Trump decided to pardon one of two turkeys presented to him in the Rose Garden in the afternoon. According to USA Today, the annual tradition was punctured with plenty of impeachment jokes from the president himself.

When presented with Bread and Butter—two extremely large turkeys that were raised in North Carolina—Trump joked about the turkeys' ability "to remain calm under any condition, which will be very important because they have already received subpoenas to appear in Adam Schiff's basement."

Per CNN, he went on to add: "It seems the Democrats are accusing me of being too soft on Turkey. But Bread and Butter, I should note that unlike previous witnesses, you and I have actually met."

This is all in reference to the ongoing impeachment inquiries, which, for those who don't know or are entirely overwhelmed by the news right now, are proceeding ahead with full force. This is not the time or place for explaining that (nor do I have the energy, frankly!), but if you so choose, you can follow the Washington Post's comprehensive live updates here.

Anyway! Trump chose to officially spare Butter over his pal Bread with an official pardon, but the president confirmed that neither turkey will be sacrificed come Thursday. It seems both turkeys have redeeming qualities, as the White House specified in a Monday tweet that Bread and Butter have hobbies, hopes, and dreams.

Anyway anyway! Happy Thanksgiving to Bread and Butter and no one else. Well, OK. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too.
