Prepare to Cry: The Property Brothers Are Designing a Forever Home with Their Parents
HGTV stars Jonathan and Drew Scott teamed up with their parents Joanne and Jim Scott to design a home fit for older adults.
In the August/September issue of AARP The Magazine, the Scott family explored the ins-and-outs of a Las Vegas house looking for the best ways to renovate it.
The fixer-upper twins suggest modifications from the entryway to the bathroom.
The Property Brothers have reinvented the definition of a “forever home,” thanks to their latest HGTV show—Property Brothers: Forever Home. Now, Jonathan and Drew Scott are taking on perhaps their most special clients yet: The duo is teaming up with their parents, Joanne and Jim Scott, to design a forever home ideal for moms and dads to live comfortably on their own for many years to come.
In the August/September issue of AARP The Magazine, the family explores the ins-and-outs of a home to come up with the most fitting renovations for older adults. A press release explained: “The Scott brothers are using an older house that’s for sale near their real home in Las Vegas as inspiration to guide Jim and Joanne as they think ahead to what’s sometimes called ‘aging-in-place,’ a way to maintain their independent living situation regardless of age.”

A six-minute video accompanying the AARP feature shows real estate expert Drew Scott taking Joanne and Jim through the home and suggesting renovations, like adding a rounded driveway, leveling uneven floors, brightening rooms with more lighting, and making simple modifications in the bathroom.
Having the fixer-upper twins work alongside their parents gave this forever home experience a special touch. Plus, asking for Jim and Joanne's insight about what they themselves would appreciate gives AARP members—and of course, HGTV viewers—the confidence to make what is truly a forever home.
