Rose Bertram just became the first model to cover Dutch Vogue while pregnant.

Bertram, who started her career as a child model, landed the magazine’s coveted first cover of 2018. Even better, she’s not just posing while pregnant — she’s styled to actively show off her growing belly. The Belgian model wears an open jacket through which her rounding midsection peeks through, as well as an unbuttoned pair of silk pants that give her stomach more room. It’s a look that’s meant to resonate with pregnant mothers, and it’s being reclaimed here as high fashion.

The cover debuted on Bertram’s Instagram along with a lenghty caption describing her long, painful journey to get there. “Most of you know that i’m not the standard model in terms of (height/sizes). I was 13years old when i started modeling, and had been told i would never be able to make a real career in the modeling industry,” she wrote. “This is exactly what made me work harder and if you know me then you obviously know that i don’t take no for an answer.”

Ten years later, she’s not only a working model, she’s made fashion history. “I could write a book about all the ups & downs i had to go through but long story short IT WAS NOT EASY AT ALL,” she writes. “And not only am i on a vogue cover, but im sharing this cover with the biggest blessing in my life and that is my babygirl!”

The first dutch VOGUE @nlvogue pregnancy cover in History!!!! IS THIS REAL!??? Most of you know that i’m not the standard model in terms of (height/seizes). I was 13years old when i started modelling, and had been told i would never be able to make a real carreer in the modelling industry. This is exactly what made me work harder and if you know me then you obviously know that i don’t take no for an answer. I started travelling by myself, contacting photographers (working on my book) many countless nights without my family & i also had to quit school when i was 17. I don’t come from a rich family so I didn’t have a lot of money to pay for hotels, taxi’s, flights etc. I used to rent a little room in other peoples appartement in different cities so that i could be able to do my castings & photoshoots and hoping i could book a big job one day… I could write a book about all the ups & downs i had to go through but long story short IT WAS NOT EASY AT ALL. With that being said you guys can not imagine what this covers means to me… there’s a whole story behind my achievements. I want to thank the whole @nlvogue @karinswerinkvogue my managing team for making my dream become reality. I always said that a Vogue cover would be a DREAM COME TRUE! This is one of the biggest moments in my life and a very proud moment to myself for all the hard work and struggles and especially all the NO’s in my career that i had to deal with. And not only am i on a vogue cover, but im sharing this cover with the biggest blessing in my life and that is my babygirl! What an amazing start for 2018!!!!!! Guys i am so emotional & gratefull and thankfulll and what more can i say!???!!! ❤️ GOD IS EXTRAORDINARY!! My full interview is available in @VogueNL so go get your copy in stores now! #NoLimit ( Oh and btw, im never going to have to photoshop myself on a Vogue cover hahaahah!!! #VOGUEBIHHHHH ) #VogueNL #VogueJanuaryIssue

Bertram’s fans are writing into the comments — in English and in Dutch — to congratulate her on a career milestone. “Congrats!! This is so incredibly special and you deserve I️t all” wrote a follower who goes by brooklynjaq. “This is awesome! You look good mama,” agreed breannavalentina.

This baby will be the first for Bertram and Gregory Van der Wiel, her professional soccer play BF. Last month, they shared a simple sex-reveal photo on Instagram: A sweet photo of the couple, holding an “It’s a Girl!” pillow.

The baby girl is due in spring, which means it’s not too early to start hoping for a mommy-daughter Vogue cover story.
