Prada Launches Instagram GIFs With Help From a Fictional It Girl

Prada has long embraced technology—remember the Prada flip phone?—and, in honor of this season’s fluorescent collection, the brand has teamed with Giphy and Instagram on an exclusive sticker pack. Available through Instagram Stories’s GIF feature, the Prada animated set features logos and prints from the Fall 2018 collection, including some, like the Spring 2010 flame shoe or Spring 2011 bananas, that nod to the Prada archive.

What makes the project all the more interesting is that to announce it to the world Prada asked not a supermodel nor a celebrity fan but a fictional Instagram influencer. Miquela, the cute, trendy CGI-generated It girl, was the first to use the sticker pack on her account, writing alongside a “photo” of herself in the Spring 2018 collection, “Go off!! #pradagifs are live in stories! Start posting and tag me.” Cast a preliminary gaze over some of Miquela’s other recent posts, and you’ll see that this isn’t her first fashion endorsement. In the past month, she’s touted Moncler’s Genius collection and Diesel’s knockoff pop-up shop. She’s worn Proenza Schouler’s PSWL label, read A Magazine Curated by Eckhaus Latta, and her first post was a Sandy Liang top. All to say that the coolest girl in fashion right now isn’t even real—so how long until there’s a Black Mirror episode about this?
