Earl: Adverse selection is when sellers have information that buyers do not have, or vice versa, about some aspect of product quality. It is thus the tendency of those in dangerous jobs or high-risk lifestyles to purchase life or disability insurance where chances are greater they will collect on it. This explains why Trump does not want to let people all of a sudden get insurance, and why Obamacare mandated everyone has to purchase it. They are both right. If you allow people to only get insurance only when they need it then insurance companies go bankrupt. If you make everyone purchase it then you are seen as not having the freedom to choose and we all have to pay for those that cannot. I really do not know what the right answer is.
