'The Post' cast reveals what it's like working with Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, and Steven Spielberg
The Post isn’t just an Oscar frontrunner — it’s also one of the year’s most star-studded films, with a supporting cast that includes Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, Tracy Letts, Carrie Coon, Bradley Whitford, Bruce Greenwood, Matthew Rhys, Alison Brie, Jesse Plemons, Pat Healy, and the ubiquitous Michael Stuhlbarg. Despite that star power, however, it’s the above-the-title trio of Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Steven Spielberg that is sure to get people into theaters — and, as we learned during our recent interviews with the supporting cast, working with that trio was a predictably amazing experience.
As Odenkirk tells Yahoo Entertainment, a prior stint writing for Saturday Night Live, which Hanks has hosted numerous times, helped prepare him for his scenes opposite the Oscar winner. Nonetheless, being directed by an “icon” like Spielberg took some getting used to — a sentiment also shared by erstwhile West Winger Whitford. And as Coon adds, the same was true with acting opposite the “workmanlike” Streep, which she says “was a great privilege.”
