Pop Star Cancels Concert Last-Minute Following Terrifying Threat

Fans were disappointed, but it may have saved their lives.

Fans experienced mixed emotions on Monday night, after Sabrina Carpenter canceled her concert in Portland, Oregon, nearly an hour after she was set to take the stage.

Footage uploaded to TikTok by user @itsriogrande showed a venue employee breaking the news from the stage, reportedly "after fans waited for hours after [the] opener [had already performed]," to disappointed screams and gasps from the crowd.

"We apologize for the delay, but due to unforeseen circumstances Sabrina will not be able to perform tonight," she said of the April 10th show.

At the time, no reason was given, with the pop star taking to Twitter moments after to apologize.

"i can't tell you how much it breaks my heart, this is the last thing i wanted to do..." she wrote, also vaguely crediting "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason the show could not go on and promising refunds and the hope of rescheduling. "...please take care of yourselves and return home safely!" she continued. "I am so sorry. I love you very much."

The Portland Police Bureau later told Rolling Stone that the Crystal Ballroom—where the show was originally scheduled to take place prior to moving to the Keller Auditorium to allow for more ticket sales—had received a "phone call from an anonymous person claiming they were going to blow up the venue" on Monday.

A representative for AEG, the tour promotor, also spoke with the publication, adding, “While the threat was not directed at Keller Auditorium specifically, Sabrina and event organizers agreed that out of an abundance of caution, the show be called off. Steps were taken to ensure that the audience exited the venue calmly, quickly, and safely.”

According to the publication, Seattle's Paramount Theatre, where she performed yesterday, April 11, implemented a clear bag policy for the show as a result of the threat.

While many fans at the time were hurt and confused, one commenter reminded everyone of the potential gravity of the situation, writing, "It was a bummer, but maybe we escaped with our lives. 🤷‍♀️"
