If you work in an office that takes Halloween seriously, finding exactly the right makeup and hair to wear with your costume is a challenge. You'd never want to arrive dressed as, like,
Pennywise with all that terrifying makeup (just imagine the looks you'd get on your commute), but you also don't want to arrive looking exactly the same as you always do. This is Halloween after all, the one day when you can really experiment. So what can you do to make sure that your costume doesn't require you to wear makeup or hair that'll freak out your coworkers and immediately get you called into HR? We came up with a solution: Channel a character from a TV show or film that's set in an office, because obviously they're already rocking hair and makeup that's work appropriate. For those of us looking to win our office costume contest (or just need an incognito outfit for a party after work), check out our recommendations, ahead. We promise they won't lead to awkward meetings all day — hell, they might even get you a promotion. Dress for the job you want, right? Renata Klein from Big Little Lies
While this show technically isn't based in an office, it does have hard-working women in corporate America, like Renata Klein (played by Laura Dern). Why not channel
the career-driven character
who left us shook with her one-liners? Let's not forget: "I will not not be rich" or "Maybe you should've shown a woman a little respect."
Find a suit set, a tie-neck blouse, power heels — and you'll be all set. Once 5 p.m. hits, feel free to take out that glass of wine to really get into character.
More Kelly Kapoor from The Office
There are a lot of
characters to choose from, but Kelly Kapoor holds a special place in our beauty hearts. Played by Mindy Kaling, Kelly had a bit more fun with her makeup and hair on the show, wearing shimmery eyeshadow,
dark plum lipstick
, and changing up her style from a shoulder-length bob to a longer cut past her shoulders. If you're the office gossip, this is definitely the costume for you.

If you happen to have a short cut with a bit of volume at the top, it's your time to shine. While the more obvious costume to recreate from
The Devil Wears Prada
is Andy, whose look is really all about straightened hair,
, and heavy black eyeliner, you'd tragically be missing out on your one chance a year to become Miranda motherfucking Priestly.
The queen of
magazine was never without a pink pouty lip, lightly rouged cheeks,
, and that amazingly dramatic front wave in her cropped hair.

Grab two of your closest work wives and get to thinking about which one of this threesome you most connect with, beauty-wise. Like to wear your hair in long loose waves and keep the makeup natural but pretty? Sutton's your girl. Got curly,
and an affinity for
? Kat's the one. Love some hot rollers and
? Go full-on Jane.

The HBIC to rule all HBICs, Olivia Pope from
was never not giving us a masterclass in office-appropriate beauty. As a D.C.-based crisis manager, she kept things more minimal with her makeup, with
light pink lip gloss
, contoured cheeks, and a subtle smoky eye. As for the hair, she most commonly wore it straight with slightly curled ends and a part to one side. Consider the office costume contest handled.

debuted in 2007, redheads (like me) have thanked Joan Holloway for gifting us a foolproof Halloween costume that requires extremely minimal effort. Simply twist your hair up in a
, and then get bold with the makeup, with bright red lips, rosy cheeks, and lots of
ideal for looking over at a man like Roger, except not because he's married.
Anyway, even if you're not a redhead, styling your hair and makeup in a '60s fashion instantly makes you look like you belong in the offices of Sterling Cooper — minus the rampant sexism.

This Halloween, why not honor one of the original badass women of STEM? While playing the legendary
, Taraji P. Henson showed us her own take on '60s beauty, wearing hot pink lipstick rather than red, and bouncy curls instead of a slick bouffant.
If you want to make this a group costume at work, grab two friends who'd be down to play
(as portrayed by Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe). Pass around the fuchsia lipstick, then show 'em who's boss.

If your office already has a more casual, start-up feel, let Issa Dee (as played by Issa Rae) from
be your Halloween beauty guide. While working at the nonprofit We Got Y'all, she tended to wear more natural makeup, with
and just a little bit of clear gloss on her lips. (For going out, she swapped it out for
.) Issa also played with a variety of hairstyles on the show, including twists, braids, and natural curls — so there are plenty of ways to channel this TV icon.

The '80s have proven to be costume gold for Halloween, and '80s office movies have given us plenty of inspiration, too. While dressing up as any main character from
9 to 5
is something we'd definitely recommend, there's also Melanie Griffith as Tess McGill in
This is a woman who rocked every extreme '80s hair trend imaginable, with sky-high voluminous curls, feathered bangs and even a
all making an appearance. To channel her, just grab your extra-hold hairspray, a comb, and go wild with the teasing. As for the makeup, it's all about going pure '80s on this one, with Griffith's character notably rocking
smudged red lipstick
, and heavy rouge.
If you've got a male friend in the office, please make him dress up like Harrison Ford
in his prime
. You won't regret it.
