Police identify drivers killed in head-on crash on I-295 in Middletown

A man and a woman were killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 295 in Middletown early Sunday morning.

Langhorne-Middletown Fire Chief Frank Farry said crews were called to mile marker 5 on eastbound I-295 about 3:20 a.m. for a report of a collision. The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims were identified as Jenna Paulaski, 21, of Ewing, New Jersey, and Alexander Wetzel, 31, of Media, Delaware County.

Paulaski was driving a 2016 Ford Taurus and Wetzel was driving a 2016 Jeep Compass. They were the only ones in their vehicles at the time, according to police.

State police said investigators believe Paulaski was traveling the wrong way on I-295 eastbound from at least exit 8. She struck Wetzel's vehicle, which was in the left lane heading eastbound, head-on, according to a state police news release.

Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Emergency personnel remained on scene while police investigated until about 6 a.m. Crews from Penndel, Parkland and William Penn fire companies assisted Langhorne-Middletown Sunday morning.

State police are investigating the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact police at 215- 942-3900.
