Police Officer Gets Married on the Same Day He Saved 3-Year-Old’s Life

One officer from the Indiana University Police Dept. is being lauded across the web for his courageous act in saving a 3-year-old’s life — on the same day as his wedding.

The department recently shared a post featuring officer John O’Rourke that recapped the wild scenario that took place on March 28. O’Rourke was visiting a local donut shop when he noticed a young girl was having a seizure.

The officer managed to save the struggling 3-year-old’s life by following rescue instructions from a 911 operator. After reviving the child, paramedics arrived at the restaurant to provide medical care for her.

“I just sat in my car for about 20 minutes, processing everything,” O’Rourke said in the post. “It had to be a donut shop. You can’t make this up.”

Hours after the rescue, the officer got married. He said that many of his friends weren’t surprised by the incident. “You know John. He’s always at the right place at the right (or wrong) time,” O’Rourke recalled one of his friends saying.

The Facebook post got more than 600 likes and a number of comments commending O’Rourke for stepping up. “Thank you for all the good that you do everyday and as always for being brave enough to put that uniform on each and every day to protect us. Thank you so much!” one user wrote. “So grateful to the officer for saving this girl! Have a wonderful life together with your wife,” another added.

The officer was unavailable for comment when Yahoo Style contacted him but he did say via a department representative that he only did what any other police officer would do.
