Pointbreak Perfection: Salina Cruz Sees Pumping Waves in Early September

This past week, the southern hemisphere roared to life with back-to-back swells slamming the Mexican coastline and lighting up all the infamous pointbreaks of Salina Cruz. With the swells' super steep angle and 18-second interval, many of the spots were in fine form, albeit, close to maxing out on the biggest day. As is the case most of the time, lots of surfers flew down to capitalize on the swell and a chance to get tubed in boardshorts. Here are some of my favorite moments.

The peak of the second swell topped out at something like 5.2 feet @18 seconds, plenty big enough to close out one of Salina Cruz’s most photogenic spots on the biggest sets. It made for some extremely compelling lineup shots and some dramatic doggy-door attempts from surfers that successfully rode the wave from the top of the point until the shorebreak.

Ryan "Chachi" Craig
