Plastic surgeon calls out popular luxury skin care products: ‘Don’t buy into the hype’

When it comes to skin care, it can be easy to buy into the hype of some products if you’re not an expert.

No shade, but it's time to stop mooching off your parents' Amazon Prime — here's why

Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Prem Tripathi called out a few skin care treatments that he found totally unnecessary — including a cult-favorite luxury moisturizer that some people, such as celebs like Kim Kardashian, swear by.

Look your best this holiday season with top fashion items from Walmart:

“I’m wondering, why do you buy this stuff?” Dr. Tripathi said. “Has La Mer become the new Louis Vuitton or any luxury skin care brand for that matter?

“There’s nothing in that product that’s going to do anything for you other than drain your pockets and maybe hydrate your skin a bit,” he explained.

As for all those cleansing brushes like the Clarisonic? It’s a nope from Dr. Tripathi, too.

“Trust me, you don’t need anything fancy to wash your face. Your hands are fine here,” the doctor said. “Don’t buy into the hype or the marketing slogan that this gets rid of acne.”

The last skin care product the surgeon disapproved of was “topical collagen.”

“I don’t understand why people feel they have to actually push collagen into their face,” he said. “By all means, build collagen with retinoids or other procedures. But thinking you’re going to push that protein in your skin — why do you buy this stuff?”

Most people appreciated Dr. Tripathi’s expert advice.

“I love your honesty because, as you know for us consumers, it’s so confusing!” someone commented.

“I disagree; La Mer is awesome,” another wrote.

“The doctor is right. Save your money,” a user said.
