On this episode of 1K Dream Room, host Will Taylor (@brightbazaar) helps Evan transform his plain NYC studio into an apartment with personality and flair. “I’m an artsy person naturally,” explains Evan. “I love pieces that would add personal touches around the space, and I would also like a little bit of color as well.” Will notices that Evan has a ton of black furniture, and promises to get rid of a lot of it and replace it with brighter pieces. With just one day and $1,000 to spend, can Will work some magic on Evan’s space? Let’s see!
Will notes that every room needs a thread running through it “to give it that cohesive feel,” and the more subtle that thread, the better. Will accomplishes this in Evan’s room by combining a striped jute and denim area rug with some striped curtains, and a striped bolster pillow for the bed.
When it comes to making a room feel cozier, Will explains that the secret is textiles. Will adds warmth to the room by dressing Evan’s new Scandinavian oak wood bed with gorgeous linens and a textured throw blanket. The interior designer has also added throw pillows and a blanket to the loveseat. “So all the textiles come together to make the room super cozy,” explains Will.
Will replaces Evan’s old black desk with a new mid-century modern desk complete with a faux leather adjustable swivel chair, and a domed brass floor lamp adds even more warmth to the space.
With the makeover complete, it’s time to invite Evan back to see the final product. When Evan steps into his transformed studio apartment, he can’t believe it’s the same space as before! He loves the color scheme Will went with, and remarks how peaceful it feels. “This morning I was a boy, now I’m a man in this room,” says Evan. “I feel like I’ve grown.”
