A commercial photographer is spreading digital media literacy through how celebrities like Kim Kardashian edits photos.

Bitcoin vs. gold: Which is the better inflation hedge?

TikToker Caroline Ross aims to make her followers savvier by revealing how ad campaigns and celebrities manipulate their photos. In a recent viral video, Ross analyzed a swimming pool shoot with Kim Kardashian. The photographer was quick to note what Kardashian’s editors had altered.

Watch this bland Brooklyn bedroom become a mid-century modern escape in just one day:

“Nerd out with me and test your media literacy skills! Can you tell what is fake in this image?” the caption read.

Ross explained that Kardashian is “notorious for Photoshopping out her traps.” The trapezius muscles are the trapezoid-shaped muscles that protrude over the neck and shoulders. You might never notice if they’ve been altered in a photo since they’re a pretty unremarkable part of the body.

The photographer speculated that editing them out “maybe made her neck look smaller.” Ross pointed to the smooth patch of water directly behind her neck, which indicated a warping of the image.

She used the Liquify tool in Photoshop to restore the photo. Then she compared it to unedited footage from the shoot. It was obvious the picture Kardashian released had been manipulated.

Ross’ video racked up over 7 million views on TikTok.

“The fact that I would never have noticed but it’s painfully obvious after the fact,” a person wrote.

“Well this explains why I never like my shoulder in pictures,” another said.

“I sware the Kardashians Instagrams are why I have body image issues,” a user lamented.

“I don’t understand why they do it, the non-edited original is so much better looking,” someone added.

“Honestly IDC about the fact that they do it; I care more about the fact they deny it/ avoid talking about it. Like it’s okay just be honest,” a TikToker replied.
