When Their Photo Shoot Got Rained Out, This Family Did a "Mud Shoot" Instead

From Country Living

One fun-loving Texas family recently had a photo shoot that got a little...messy.

Jon and Brittany Barton, parents to 4-year-old Declan and 2-year-old Noah, were expecting their third child and wanted to take some family maternity photos. The couple hired photographer Elaine Baca of Lane B Photography for the shoot, but inclement weather forced them to reschedule several times.

"In Waxahachie, Texas, when it rains it pours," Elaine told CountryLiving.com. "In the weeks leading up to the maternity session, the rain was relentless." At 38 weeks, Brittany was quickly approaching the end of her pregnancy and they were running out of time to capture the pictures. (Baby Matthew was born nine days after the photo session!)

Knowing that the family was outdoorsy and adventurous, Elaine didn't want to photograph them stuck indoors-so she suggested something a little unconventional.

"They have a huge backyard which backs up to a field and I knew it had lots of muddy puddles-so I asked her what she thought about playing in the rain and ending with a mud fight," Elaine said. Brittany didn't even hesitate before agreeing to the messy shoot.

Even if the stains never come out of those white clothes, it was worth it-because the photos are completely adorable. They perfectly capture how much fun the loving family has together, which was the photographer's goal.

"For me, photo sessions are all about preserving memories and making new ones," Elaine said. "With small children it's about remembering their ever changing personalities and quirks that make them unique."

These pictures are definitely something to be remembered-and so is all the fun they had while taking them.
