Phillies to receive warning from MLB after Gabe Kapler's bullpen mistake
New Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler’s first week on the job just went from bad to worse. Major League Baseball is expected to issue a formal warning to the Phillies following Kapler’s bullpen screw-up during Saturday’s game, according to MLB.com.

Kapler managed to get himself into hot water with the league following an incident in which he signaled for a pitching change without having any relievers warming up in the bullpen. Kapler called for reliever Hoby Milner, who wasn’t ready to enter the game.
In order to prevent Milner from injuring himself, umpire Jerry Layne allowed him to throw a few warmup pitches, but not as many as usual. MLB is still in the process of reviewing the video, but agreed with Layne’s ruling in this situation.
Following the game, Layne revealed his intention to forward the issue to MLB. Kapler took full responsibility for the error in communication.
As for the letter, we’re curious what a “formal warning” looks like in MLB. In this situation, something as simple as, “Get it together” would probably work.
The Phillies were expected to begin a series with the New York Mets on Monday, but Game 1 of the series was postponed. Even on a day when the Phillies were off, Kapler’s mistakes still hurt the team.
