It wasn’t the greatest of days for Peter King.

The NBC Sports writer was a guest on the “Dan Patrick Show” on Thursday morning when he was pulled over by a police officer. The two were dissecting the Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott, who said he won’t play without a new contract, when King interrupted with his current dilemma and promptly hung up.

King was in full reporting mode for the exchange and the “Dan Patrick Show” crew thought maybe he was getting breaking news on the subject.

Patrick: “This seems like maybe the best Cowboys team we’ve seen in a while.”

King: “Hey Dan, guess what, this is hilarious. I got stopped for talking on a cell phone because I’m talking to you so now I have to hang up. The cops are coming to the car. Sorry about that.”

What year vehicle is Peter King — Peter King! — driving that he doesn’t have bluetooth technology built into the system? It started in luxury vehicles in the mid-2000s and is now guaranteed in any new vehicle. Did no one help him hook it up?

(Patrick’s answer: King has a flip phone.)

Patrick asked if King wanted him to talk with the police officer, but he had already hung up at that point. And his excuse almost certainly wouldn’t work. The host was going to tell the police he initiated the call and King picked up on accident.

King did call back to report the breaking news that he got a ticket.

“Of course I got a ticket. I mean I said to the cop I’m on with Dan Patrick and he said here’s your ticket.”

Maybe he can slide that into the expense report somewhere.
