Did your family grow by a tail or two this year? You aren’t alone. About 33% of Americans surveyed considered adding a furry friend to their life during COVID.

Whether you have a new puppy or kitten or plan on adding one to your household this year, pet wellness insurance might be beneficial for your budget. Generally, pet insurance has been more beneficial for pet parents that need to pay for emergency animal surgery. But what if you want routine visits and meds covered? Wagmo allows individuals to mix and match wellness and insurance plans to get the perfect coverage for their fur babies.

Wagmo can help pet parents pay for vaccines, as well as grooming and dental care with its pet wellness plans starting at $20 per month. Here’s everything you need to know about Wagmo pet insurance.

What Does Wagmo Cover?

Wagmo offers three levels of pet wellness insurance: value, classic and deluxe. For wellness insurance, coverage starts immediately. Additional emergency pet insurance can be added to your plan, though this monthly fee will vary by pet age and breed. The different levels of pet wellness insurance come with different coverages.

Value Plan

Covers one office visit, two vaccines, routine bloodwork and fecal test every year.

Classic Plan

Covers one office visit, three vaccines, routine bloodwork, fecal test, urinalysis, $100 of flea/tick/heart-worm medicines and $100 of grooming every year.

Deluxe Plan

Covers two office visits, four vaccines, routine bloodwork, fecal test, urinalysis, $200 of flea/tick/heart-worm medicines, $200 of grooming and $100 of dental care every year.

Wagmo’s emergency insurance does not cover the wellness expenses nor does the wellness insurance cover emergency expenses. However, you can choose both for your pet for one monthly price.

Pet insurance does cover accidents, illnesses, surgeries, cancer treatment, prescription medications and more. While Wagmo’s wellness insurance is available in every city and state in America, the insurance plan is limited to New York and California pet parents as of now.

What types of pets does Wagmo cover?

Wagmo is just for dogs and cats, so if you wanted coverage on your exotic bird, you will have to look elsewhere.

How Does Wagmo Work?

As soon as you sign up for Wagmo’s wellness plan, you can start using it. You choose the veterinarian or groomer of your choice, and Wagmo will reimburse you for the bill. Here’s how Wagmo works:

  • After signing up, visit a licensed vet or groomer like you normally would.

  • Pay for your bill.

  • Login to your Wagmo dashboard at wagmo.io and select, “Make a Claim.”

  • Submit a picture of your receipt.

  • Wagmo processes claims within 24 hours so you can get your reimbursement as quickly as possible.

  • Reimbursements are made via Venmo, PayPal or bank transfer.

Coverage begins at the time of sign-up, but Wagmo will not cover any expenses incurred before you sign up. Your coverage is good all year up to the maximum amount covered. For example, if you have the Deluxe plan, then you can get reimbursed for an office visit in January and another office visit in November. Similarly, with the Deluxe plan, you have a $200 grooming credit, so Wagmo will reimburse your bill until they have paid out $200.

How Much Does Wagmo Cost?

The pet wellness plans are set costs of $20 for value, $36 for classic and $59 for deluxe per month. Adding on an additional pet will save you 5% on coverage costs. You can choose to pay monthly or yearly, but you will be locked into a 12-month commitment either way.

Occasionally, you can find 10% off coupons to reduce your yearly costs.

Adding on emergency pet coverage will increase your cost based on the age and breed of the pet. For example, for a 3-month old dachshund, emergency coverage costs $30.66 per month while the same coverage for a 10-year old dachshund costs $77 per month.

What Doesn’t Wagmo Cover?

Wagmo will not provide coverage for animals under eight weeks old. Whether you opt for the wellness plan or the insurance plan, Wagmo will also not cover the following medical costs on either plan:

  • Spaying/neutering

  • Dental surgeries

  • Breeding, pregnancy or birth expenses

  • Alternative therapies

  • Vitamins, supplements and prescription dog food

  • Pre-existing conditions or injuries

How Much Can Wagmo Save Pet Parents?

How much you save with Wagmo’s pet wellness plans depends on your level of coverage and how many services you planned on your pet needing this year. Here’s a breakdown of how much each plan can save you.

Value Plan

Get reimbursed up to $350 each year for a max savings of $110 after yearly fees.

Classic Plan

Get reimbursed up to $650 each year for a max savings of $218 after yearly fees.

Deluxe Plan

Get reimbursed up to $1,100 each year for a max savings of $392 after yearly fees.

Is Wagmo Right for You?

Wagmo isn’t the best or most affordable option for every pet. We love the wellness plan for puppies because young dogs require more vaccines and grooming. Kittens need vaccines and routine blood work too, but it is a good idea to weigh the cost of these services versus the yearly pet wellness plan costs.

Wagmo is best for pups that will require all of the covered services. Using all of the covered services will save you the most money out of pocket. If you have an older dog that doesn’t require a lot of upkeep, Wagmo might cost you more money in the long run on monthly premium costs.
