This Personalized Astro Candle Looks Hella Fancy and Won’t Break Your Budget

From Cosmopolitan

QQ: Is there anyone who isn’t into a good candle? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say, uh, no. That’s because once you light it, a candle does all the things: sets the mood, boosts your spirits, and makes you feel like you have your life together (even if it’s lowkey falling apart).

Okay, so for all you candle lovers (aka everyone), I’m about to introduce you to something that’s going to take your scented game to the next level. Meet Birthdate Candles. Forget a candle with a picture of your home state on it—these hyper-personalized candles use astrology, numerology, and tarot to create a candle that is *literally* made for you. Each birth date has an individual scent that’s custom-blended just for you (so, yes, there are 365 (!!!) different smells).

Plus, there’s a label on each candle that includes your ruling number, ruling planet, tarot card, and a description of your personality. It’s kind of the perfect gift for any occasion—whether they know everything about astrology or they don’t know the difference between a Mercury Retrograde and a Saturn Return, whoever’s on the receiving end of this present will be impressed at the sheer amount of personal detail this candle has (and by the fact that you remembered their birthday). Oh, and they smell really good too.

Back to the astrological details—so, like I said, this candle includes your ruling number, ruling planet, and your tarot card. If you’re wondering, Uh, WTF does that mean?? don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. I chatted with astrologer Lisa Stardust to help break down all the deets.

What’s your ruling number?

Birthdate Candles uses—you guessed it—your birthday to come up with your ruling number. According to Stardust, in numerology, there’s the idea that your date of birth reveals something about your personality.

Let’s use our girl Kim Kardashian as an example. Kim K. was born on October 21, meaning her ruling number is 3—you calculate this by adding together your birth date, so in Kim’s case, you add 2 and 1 together). According to Birthdate Candles, “Those ruled by the number 3 strive to outcompete others: They often do well working for themselves, whether as freelancers or entrepreneurs.” IDK about you, but to me, that definitely fits Kim K.

I was born on August 5, so—you guessed it—my ruling number is 5. My candles states that “those ruled by the number 5 love freedom, above all else. Energetic, impulsive, and adventurous, they seem to have some special power to bounce back from the consequences of their risk-taking behavior.” Uh, my parents would one hundred percent confirm that statement. Plus, I’m a triple fire (Leo Sun, Sagittarius Moon, and Aries Rising), so if you’re wondering how restless I am, on a scale of 1 to 10, the answer is 100.

What’s your ruling planet?

Each zodiac sign is ruled by a planet, says Stardust. Each planet has its own vibe, energy, and personality that influences different parts of ourselves.

Kim’s a Libra, so her ruling planet is Venus, the planet of beauty and everything we take pleasure in (aka cozy clothes and, you know, her family’s reality TV show)? Adds up.

As a Leo, I’m ruled by the Sun, and “a knack for command extends from the Sun to Leo birth dates, while at the same time, its powerful presence also counsels heavy responsibility,” states my candle. This basically means that I’m a natural leader—I’m also the oldest in my family, so this makes sense as well. The second part of the quote is lowkey…foreboding. It kind of reminds me of that “with great power comes great responsibility” quote from Spider-Man. TBD on how that plays out for me….

What’s your tarot card?

Not only does each zodiac sign have a ruling planet, but it also has its own Major Arcana tarot card, says Stardust. Okay, let’s rewind a little bit. Tarot cards are split into two groups, says Stardust: 56 Minor Arcana cards and 22 Major Arcana cards. Major Arcana cards deal with your life’s overall journey and those BIG milestones (think: career, marriage, kids, that kind of thing).

On the October 21 candle, the tarot card says, “The World is in the 21st card in the Major Arcana of the Tarot, representing inner independence—being home in one’s self and in conscious connection with the universe. The World also cautions against false visions and misconceived ideas: without inner harmony, all is lost.” 👀 A verrrrry interesting tarot card for a reality TV star who (1) decided to follow her dreams and begin taking the steps to become a lawyer and (2) who’s currently going through a divorce.

Your Birthdate Candle also comes with a description of your personality. Here’s a quote from mine: “They see things through to fruition and may have a knack for patient, slow-developing work (gardening, writing, coding).” It’s v true—I hate leaving things unfinished (like, HATE), and in case you forgot, I’m the one writing this article. (I can’t code though—sorry, parents!!)

The Smell

Each candle has its own unique scent, blending specifically for that date. Birthdate Candles worked with a team of astrologers to break down the ideal flowers, plants, and oils to fit each b-day, then they want to perfumers to actually make that custom scent. The end result is a fragrance that is tailored specifically for you. As someone who has one (okay, three) of these candles, I can confirm that the scent is absolutely perfect for me. The three main notes are rosemary, chamomile, and shea. I mean, there’s a reason I have so many of these candles lying around. The scent is absolutely divine—not too sweet or flowery, yet it doesn’t lean too woody or musky.

As for Kim’s candle, her scent contains a blend of jasmine, peony, and hydrangea. In an interview with Allure, she said that her favorite scents are white florals. You know what notes fall under the white floral umbrella???? Jasmine and hydrangea. I told you these were highkey accurate!

The Verdict

Whether you want to gift this candle or keep it for yourself, you’re going to want to cop a Birthdate Candle ASAP. It’s priced at $38 and the candle has a burn time of 60 to 80 hours, which, IMO, is an unreal deal for an object where every single detail, including the scent, is personally customized for you. It’s hella luxe, from the scent to the packaging, at a super-budget-friendly price. Plus, once you’ve burned through your Birthdate Candle, you can recycle the jar and store your makeup brushes inside. What’s not to love?
