They say the eyes are the window to the soul. And I must admit, my particular soul is mighty weary right about now. When I run into friends lately, it’s clear they haven’t fared any better. All I can see above their masks is two tired eyes, and I think: “Serum all around!”

The few times I’ve put on makeup during this pandemic, I’ve noticed a major change in the skin around my eyes, particularly when I’m applying eye shadow. The skin has gotten crepey, with more lines and folds than ever before. Eyeshadows don’t go on smoothly, and those pretty sparkly colors I’m drawn to seem to highlight every flaw. Then there are the dark shadows underneath. Where am I going with all this self-confessing? To serum, of course. I needed a good one—stat.

At the very top of the eye serum pyramid is this Eyelid Lift Serum by Perricone MD. This magic potion is said to rejuvenate the delicate skin of the eyelid and surrounding areas. Created by the famed Dr. Nicholas Perricone, an anti-aging guru, this lightweight formula is intended to “visibly smooth the appearance of periorbital lines and wrinkles.” I look up the word periorbital (“around the orbit of the eye”). I feel seen.

This serum, I learn, is on sale. As part of QVC’s Black Friday Beauty IQ Steal sale, it’s down $35 from the regular price (now $61, from $96). I make the purchase. Is Perricone’s Eyelid Lift Serum any match for this tough year?

The ingredients list includes some things I’ve never heard of (acyl-glutathione?) but many things I know, like chia seed oil, macadamia seed oil, and flaxseed oil. I like that the product is void of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, petrolatum, mineral oil, silicones, and formaldehydes.

The reviews are impressive. Some shoppers report their eyes looking bigger (“My eyelids are lifted and look more open”). Others say they saw “improvement with the fine lines around [my] eyes within a few days.”

This next review really makes me go, well, wide-eyed: “I [wanted to] to find a product that makes my eyelids less droopy but short of plastic surgery I didn’t think that was possible,” says the shopper. “This eyelid serum is second best because it does make a difference in my eyelid texture. I noticed everything is smoother and my eye makeup goes on much better as a result...A little goes a long way so it lasts a long time.” Boy can I relate.

I unbox my precious little stash and smooth some on my lids—and in the entire periorbital region. Ah. So soft and silky. I feel better already.

Of course, any long-term impact will take some time. But I can tell you that users online are seeing great results. Here’s just one of many raves: “I have found the Holy Grail of eyelid serums and will never go a DAY without it now,” raves the fan. “NEVER have I used a product that DELIVERED so mightily on its claims! This WILL improve your eyelids! I was having issues with saggy skin for the first time and had been trying EVERY product on the market. THIS PRODUCT WORKS! I can now continue to enjoy using fun eyeshadow products without having old-looking eyes. I am 50 this year and really grateful to have found this!”

It’s not just the sale that makes this an easy win. QVC lets you spread out the cost, with five interest-free payments of just $12.60 each, so you can easily fit this wonder serum into your budget.

“I use it in the morning and evening!! You can see my eyes more. It actually works!” says another fan.

I, for one, am sold.
