Pepperpot Jamaican Cuisine opens its dining room and bar on King Drive
Pepperpot Jamaican Cuisine now is open at 2215 N. King Drive, for dining in, drinks and takeout.
The restaurant, which has grown from its original, takeout-only location at 4120 W. Capitol Drive, is open now for lunch and dinner, and it's planning a grand opening celebration April 21 at the new Bronzeville site.
In the meantime, Pepperpot on King Drive is in soft-opening mode — the full menu will launch at the grand opening, owner and head chef Dwight Jackson said.
He's taking the opportunity of the soft opening, which began Tuesday, to try out some new dishes for the final menu.
The restaurant is known for its traditional Jamaican dishes such as jerk chicken, oxtails and curry chicken, but also for its hefty jerk chicken egg rolls.
The new Pepperpot is holding regular hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
Jackson said he expects to debut Sunday brunch sometime after Mother's Day.
