Peppermint Bark Oreos Make for Festive Dunking

I’ll let you in on a little secret: Williams Sonoma’s peppermint bark is one of the more clutch holiday treats out there. It works great as a secret Santa or white elephant, and it’ll be gone before you know it if it’s left out at your Christmas party.

So what happens if you don’t have a local Williams Sonoma, or want to dip that peppermint bark in a glass of milk for whatever reason? Well, you turn to the latest limited edition offering from everyone’s favorite circular, creme-filled cookie. That’s right, festive eaters: for the holiday season, Oreo is bringing back its peppermint bark flavor just in time for ... Halloween.

As you’d expect, these are a slight twist on the standard Oreo to incorporate the best flavors of the holiday season. In between two cookies that are “always made with real cocoa,” according to the packaging, you’ll find peppermint-flavored creme loaded with “crunchy sugar crystals.” Those feel like an essential part of the cookie, adding a textural element that elevates the bite in this ersatz bark.

It’s worth pointing out that this is a very slight departure from previous Oreo holiday offerings, specifically Peppermint Creme and Candy Cane editions. The holidays are nothing if not an infinite loop where what’s old is made slightly newer again.

If you simply must get your hands on these Peppermint Bark Oreos well in advance of most normal peppermint fans, you can get them at $3 a pop from Walmart and Target’s websites. Everyone else who wants to at least wait until November before moving into Christmas cookie mode can presumably find them wherever fine Oreos are sold sometime around then.
