It’s always exciting to find out all the new things waffle irons can do, like make bacon, bake apples and even yield grilled cheese sandwiches (um, yum?), but who knew you could use them to actually reheat slices of pizza? As a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur, I thought I knew every way to enjoy pizza, but boy, was I wrong, because I had no idea that using a waffle iron to reheat pizza was even a thing. What?!
According to senior food editor of Lifehacker Claire Lower, though, pizza lovers who have a full-sized waffle maker will be able to resurrect those leftover slices to their fresh-out-of-the-oven glory with this hack. You’ll have to make sure you have at least two slices for it to work the way it’s needed. Still not making sense to you? Don’t worry, it’s so easy, you’ll question why you never thought of doing this yourself either.
All you need to do is place your two slices together with the cheesy and ingredient-laden sides touching one another. Then—after placing a small amount of olive oil on the crusty sides as suggested by Lower—lay those babies on your pre-heated waffle iron. You can even add more toppings on your slice (because who could ever get enough of mushrooms, green peppers, tomatoes and more cheese?!), but be sure to add them on the slice that’s at the bottom of the iron before sandwiching on your top slice. Et voila! Once the timer goes off, you’ll have two hot, cheesy, and, most importantly, freshly crisp slices of pizza to enjoy at your leisure. You can see how Lower's beautiful, beautiful experiment turned out here.
Seriously, folks, why haven’t we been using our waffle irons like this sooner? Nevertheless, we’re here now and we’d all be crazy to leave this pizza party anytime soon.
