18 Of The Best Meet-Cutes In All Of Movie History
We recently asked members of our BuzzFeed Community, "What is the single best meet-cute scene in any movie, ever?" and you better believe hopeless romantics came through with all kinds of great responses!
Sony Pictures Releasing
So, with that in mind, here are just a few of the most popular responses shared:
1.Sleepless in Seattle (1993)
"They really meet at the end of the movie, so it’s a bit unusual, but I love it. The whole movie, it seems like the universe is trying to push them toward each other, but they let each other slip away. Then, Sam and Jonah get in the elevator to leave the Empire State Building just before Annie’s elevator arrives, and you think they’ll miss each other again. But Sam and Jonah return for the teddy bear and see Annie holding it. Sam simply says, 'It’s you.' The chemistry! After the elevator operator clears his throat, Sam says, 'We better go,' and you wonder if they’re going to let each other slip away again. But then, Sam says, 'Shall we?' and holds his hand out to Annie. And Jonah’s big smile as they all leave together and the elevator doors close! Gets me every time."

2.Sylvie’s Love (2020)
"This movie is so underrated as a whole! Their meet-cute is kinda simple, but for New York in the ’50s, I’ll take it. It revolves around Robert traveling out of his way to buy a record, and that’s when he randomly sees Sylvie working through the store window. As he browses, Sylvie is distracted by I Love Lucy on TV, and her laugh is so cute that Robert basically convinces himself that he needs to know who she is, so he asks for a job. He ultimately gets hired, and their relationship grows over their love of music. Tessa Thompson is so perfect in this movie, and Nnamdi Asomugha can absolutely get it, LOL."

3.My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
"The first time they meet, Toula is so taken by Ian that she’s unable to talk and fumbles the interaction. The second time they meet, Ian is drawn to her and awkwardly tries to impress and joke with her. It’s not an immediate spark, but it’s so sweet to show both characters shyly liking each other and being awkward. These scenes also show Toula’s growing self-confidence, since she wasn’t even able to talk to Ian the first time, and the second time, she’s bold enough to do so and finds a connection."

5.Ever After (1998)
"When they first meet, Danielle sees a man stealing her father’s horse and starts pelting him hard with apples from the orchard she’s standing in, only to realize it’s the Prince of France trying to escape his own guards. Then, they meet again later without him realizing it's her."

6.Father of the Bride (1991)

8.The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020)
"This might not be a popular opinion, but I liked how Nick met Lucy getting into Nick’s car thinking it’s her Lyft, and him just accepting the situation after seeing Lucy being upset. He still took her home and just let her rant the entire ride."

9.You've Got Mail (1998)
"That final scene where they really meet. All of those months of him trying to raise her opinion of him — all because he already knew he loved her — and her falling for him, but also thinking she's in love with 'NY152.' And the moment she realizes the two guys she's fallen for are the same. It makes me squeal with delight each time."

10.Serendipity (2001)
"Jonathan and Sara meet while Christmas shopping at Bloomingdale's when they both try to purchase the same pair of gloves and basically fall in love instantly, but Sara infuriatingly decides to leave their entire potential relationship to fate. This does lead to the moooost frustrating hour and a half of missed connections and shenanigans only to finally bring us back to that fateful Bloomingdale's at the end. I simply cannot resist it."

11.Closer (2004)
"Jude Law and Natalie Portman. I know it doesn’t end well, but that initial meeting was iconic."

13.The Holiday (2006)
"I love this movie. Both Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet) are strangers who decide to trade homes for the holidays after having guy troubles. Iris goes to California and has a meet-cute with Amanda's friend, Miles, and Amanda has a meet-cute with Graham, Iris's brother. It's funny, romantic, and I never would've thought of Jack Black as a love interest, but he was amazing!"

18.When Harry Met Sally... (1989)
"Okay, this is the definition of including the perfect meet-cute. When Harry and Sally decided to roadtrip to NYC together, it showed off their amazing chemistry, and they really are the definition of the friends-to-lovers trope. I love their banter and bickering in that car, and it really sets up the whole movie so perfectly."
