People are losing it over this 3-year-old girl expertly doing her own makeup

We’ve seen kids who wear makeup, and kids who make messes with makeup. But a child who does her own makeup masterfully? That’s what we call a wunderkind.

A video of a 3-year-old makeup guru named Liriana has gotten a ton of attention, and it’s dividing those who view it. The video shows Liriana applying a jewel-tone look to her own face, complete with concealer on her nonexistent under-eye circles, Huda Beauty eyeshadow, blush for her plump cheeks, mascara, and plum lipstick — all the while with her hands sporting nail polish.

The result is not the mess we thought it would be. She frames her now sparkly face with a bejeweled headpiece. Her mom, Suella, shared the video in October, and it’s amassed more than 10,000 views since. A few weeks later, Huda Kattan shared the video on her Instagram, garnering over 1 million views. It was shared again this week, and it quickly attracted more than 400,000 viewers — ourselves included.

After watching the adorable tot apply her makeup and put us to shame, we had to find out how she does it, so we spoke to her mom. “She loves to copy everything that I do,” Suella told Yahoo Beauty. “Literally everything has to match with me: our outfits, makeup, hair! It’s so funny and she’s been this way since she was, like, 1 and a half.” Liriana usually asks her mom to put some music on, and “just starts to play.”

We couldn’t quite believe that Liriana gets no help from mom, but Suella confirmed that she works alone. “She does her own makeup from start to finish. I just sit there and record her while she does her own thing.” Sure enough, there are more videos of Liriana applying near perfect makeup on their Instagram account.

Commenters are equally amazed. “OMG she’s such a cutie,” said makeup artist Huda Kattan. “She does wayyyy better makeup then me,” a follower commented. “I can barely draw a hand but a 4 or 5 year old can do make up,” echoed another. “Wow. She’s actually pretty good at that. Lol. What a cutie!” wrote a third. Someone else said: “She’s gonna be a pro.”

While we still haven’t mastered the smoky eye, it’s only taken Liriana a year to basically become a pro. “She has always loved doing her makeup ever since she was about 2 years old.”

But many think that is “way too young.” “[O]h my gosh no why don’t we teach girls that natural beauty is prettier?” a follower asked. “Too young for this … poor kids … they don’t know what is real childhood,” said another. “Too young to be doing that. Toxic chemicals in that makeup that she’s rubbing directly into her eyes. Where the heck are her parents?!” someone else pointed out. “[S]he is so young to be interested in makeup to this extent. She needs to have another interest like drawing, swimming, or playing piano to take her mind of[f] makeup. And when she becomes a teenager she can obsess about make up. However, for now let her live her childhood because it will never come back. Please stop encouraging their parent to give them makeup and video-shoot.”

Suella often feels the need to defend herself to the haters. “In the beginning it used to bother me. Especially when HudaBeauty reposted her video and we were all so excited, and then when I was reading some of the negative comments, I just wanted to explain myself, that nothing that they were saying was true!” she recalled.

“My daughter does not wake up and put makeup on. She just loves to play with it from time to time and I have no problem allowing her to do it because we’ve all done it,” she said. “I started to record her doing her makeup for my family so when I was reading people’s comments saying I’m trying to sell her or taking away her innocence or that making her not love herself without makeup, I was baffled,” she continued. “I don’t think any mother would bring that negativity to their child; this is all for fun.”

Suella wishes people wouldn’t take it so seriously. “It’s a little kid playing. But I’m not going to please everyone and I understand that, so I’ve learned to ignore them and appreciate the people supporting my daughter’s page.”

Luckily, they have tons of fans ready to defend them. “Normally I don’t agree with kids wearing makeup but she’s doing this out of pure innocence & fun the only way a small child can, she’s so adorable! Her makeup game is strong!” one commenter said. “[H]er hobby might be doing make up. It’s no different from someone her age having ballet or something as a hobby? But because she’s putting something on her face it’s deemed ‘wrong,’” another commenter pointed out. “She is showing her talent and her love for make up that doesn’t mean that she wear make up every day.”

While no one can seem to agree on the proper age to start applying makeup, one thing is undeniable: This little lady is a master with a makeup brush.
