The Pentagon accidentally shared a tweet that demanded Trump’s resignation
Could the Pentagon be among those hoping that President Donald Trump resigns? On November 16th, the Pentagon accidentally demanded that Trump resign through a retweet. The tweet was posted through the Department of Defense’s official Twitter account
DoD officials deleted the retweet almost immediately, but not before it was seen by many of the account’s 5.2 million followers.
The original tweet had been posted by a user with the handle @ProudResister, and the account links to a website selling anti-Trump T-shirts. The tweet criticized the Republicans’ response to sexual assault allegations against Trump, Senator Al Franken, and Roy Moore. In addition to Trump’s resignation, the post demanded that Franken resign and Moore end his Senate race.
“Roy Moore: Step down from the race. Al Franken: Resign from congress. Donald Trump: Resign from the presidency. GOP: stop making sexual assault a partisan issue. It’s a crime as is your hypocrisy,” @ProudResister’s tweet read.

While all three political figures have been accused of sexual assault and or/harassment, the allegations against Trump have largely been ignored by the administration. Trump has been accused of sexually assaulting 17 women before the 2016 presidential election, but the White House has insisted the allegations are false and that the women are “liars.”
Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress have widely condemned both Franken and Moore for their behavior. Many have requested that Moore end his Senate campaign and supported opening an Ethics Committee investigation against Franken.
Dana White, spokesperson for the Defense Department, tweeted that an “authorized operator” of the Twitter account had “erroneously retweeted content that would not be endorsed by the Department of Defense. The operator caught this error and immediately deleted it.”

It’s possible the retweet was, in fact, an honest mistake, but we’ll never know for sure…
