As a fully fledged member of the big titty committee, for years I have said that I ‘can’t’ run. Was it because I would make any old excuse? Partly. Was it really because I could never find a bigger bust sports bra that didn’t hurt, or cause second-hand embarrassment as the ladies go flying on each stride? Sadly, yes.
It’s hard enough with big boobs to find a bra that fits properly, let alone keep them from giving me a black eye if I dared go for a run.
And I’m not alone. Over a third of women with D+ breasts say they do not exercise because of their chest size, and 40% of women experience breast pain while exercising. Plus, did you know that the running stride of someone wearing a poorly-fitted sports bra is 4cm shorter than one in a supportive sports bra?
So when I first heard of PeBe, I confess I was sceptical. It sounded too good to be true: a bra that fits, is supportive, and doesn’t fling your boobs around the minute you start moving? I struggled to believe it.
I could not be more wrong.
💸 Reasons to buy
Long story short, it works. Most sports bras work by compressing the breasts to stop them from moving, but the brand's founder Charlotte Gill worked with leading breast biomechanical experts to create PeBe’s WRAPA technology, which offers wearers 85% less bounce.
The WRAPA technology is an additional figure of eight looped contour layer beneath the outer layer for superior support and a much lighter feel. As soon as you put the Impact Sports Bra on you can feel an uplifting difference in posture and support.
The soft, anti-chafe, stretchy fabric is created from 65% recycled polyamide and doesn’t lose its shape. After numerous washes (running is sweaty business after all), it has maintained its shape and elasticity, and shows no signs of wear or tear.
And finally - and my favourite factor of all - they are no underwires. I don’t think I have ever felt this much support from a sports bra without underwires, yet the smooth grip tape on the underband, and cross-strap back means it stays firmly in place with no bulky clips or fastenings.
✋ Reasons to avoid
I am genuinely struggling to find reasons to avoid this life saver of a bra. What I would say is that it does what it says on the tin.
The Impact Sports Bra is for high-impact sports and activities. If you’re looking for something more low-impact, or that lets the ladies breathe a little more, this isn’t it.
Also, if you’re on the smaller end of the size scale, there are other sports bras out there that are in the A-D cup range that might be more affordable, but for D+ bras, I really haven't found anything that works quite as well.
