While we wait—and wait some more—for that Friends reunion to happen, NBCUniversal's recently launched streaming service, Peacock, has announced a new romantic dramedy that they hope will fill that Central Perk–size hole in our hearts. It's called Five Bedrooms, an eight-episode series that focuses on five single people who meet at a wedding (at the singles table, of course) and decide to go in and buy a house together. Think of it as Friends meets HGTV's Fixer Upper. Or the Tom Hanks–Shelley Long ’80s classic, The Money Pit. Take a look at the trailer, exclusive to Glamour, below:
What's immediately refreshing about the series is that these aren't a bunch of early-20-something Bachelor-type contestants complaining they'll be single for the rest of their life. By the looks of the trailer, each character is in their 30s or 40s and recognizes that life doesn't always go according to plan. Case in point: These five singles aren't looking for a party house. When a wedding guest tells them that they'll have twice as much buying power as a married couple if they all go in on a place together, it's clear they have financial success on their mind.
But such a big decision doesn't come without some hiccups along the way. Their new home isn't quite the Four Seasons, and their neighbors are dumbfounded by the arrangement (um, have they never seen an episode of The Golden Girls?). But all the headaches and hurdles result in deeper friendships, and the age-old saying that your true friends are really your family.
So what else do we know? Well, Five Bedrooms will premiere on Thursday, August 13, and each episode is 45 minutes. Plus, all the episodes will be available at once, so no waiting for those Must See TV/Thursday nights to roll around. The series stars Australian actors Kat Stewart, Stephen Peacocke, Doris Younane, Katie Robertson, Roy Joseph, Kate Jenkinson, and Hugh Sheridan.
