Paulina Porizkova is back with another stripped-down selfie to celebrate her aging body, this time, wearing thong lingerie. The former supermodel, 57, frequently shares these self-portraits to empower others and embrace her sexuality. She wants to get the message across that she has nothing to hide—and neither should you.
In the photo, which was taken from behind Porizkova, she sits at a vanity, admiring her own reflection. Beneath it, in one of her signature deep, reflective captions, she mused over the perceived connection between youth, femininity, and desirability.
“A woman of a certain age is often described as elegant. Stylish. Even handsome. Do you not notice something?” she wrote. “All those descriptions are masculine. It’s like after a certain age—we lose our license to be women.”
On the contrary, she added that older women who acknowledge their sexuality are often called “thirsty” or “hungry for attention,” and wondered if those common insults are rooted in postmenopausal shame. “Since we no longer can breed—we should no longer be seductive?” she asked.
Whether or not that’s the case, Porizkova refuses to let such a notion define her. “The time of my life when I felt the least sexy was at my most fertile—when I was a mother to young children. Because my body wasn’t mine—it belonged to my children,” she continued. “Now, when I have reclaimed it, I’m supposed to hide it? Nah. Don’t think so.”
