Both Manchester clubs, not to mention the French national team, received tough blows on Saturday.

Paul Pogba played the full 90 minutes in United’s draw at Southampton but was limping noticeably due to a twisted ankle after the match, according to chief BBC writer Phil McNulty:

Pogba is arguably the Red Devils’ most influential player, and would sorely be missed if he’s out for an extended period of time.

Manchester City’s defense could be in a similar spot, as Aymeric Laporte had to be stretchered off the field in a 4-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion following a harsh challenge by Adam Webster that appeared to injure his knee.

Laporte was the first-choice center back pairing with Nicolas Otamendi, but now suddenly City finds itself thin at the position after Vincent Kompany’s departure this summer and John Stones’ ongoing rehab from a thigh injury.

Moreover, both players were called up for France’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers during next week’s international break. The reigning World Cup champions should make easy work of Albania and Andorra without the two stars, but it’s not a position they want to be in for long.
