Paul Pogba has explained why he kept his haircut simple during the World Cup in Russia.

The Manchester United midfielder was one of France’s top performers as they lifted the trophy for the second time and there was one noticeable difference to his appearance.

Whereas during the season he regularly changed the style and colour of his hair, it remained the same throughout the five-week tournament.

During a difficult season at Manchester United, various pundits criticised Pogba for focussing on his looks, rather than his game and linked his haircuts to his inconsistent form.

And during a question and answer session on his Instagram, the 25-year-old admitted that played a part in his decision to tone down his style whilst on national duty.

He wrote: “Because I wanted peace to be only focus on my performance and not my look so there is no excuse they could only criticise the football part.”

Pogba’s displays at the World Cup earned plenty of praise and he will be hoping to recreate them when the domestic season gets underway next weekend.

Whether or not he continues his clean-cut approach to his hair will become clearer then, not that he should care with a World Cup winners medal to his name.

During the same Q and A session, Pogba also revealed that his Mother currently has his medal and gave some tips to succeed at the very top, which included the phrase ‘ignore the haters’.
