Paul McCartney photobombs a Canadian couple's wedding pictures in 'absolutely surreal' moment

Maybe they’re amazed at their luck. A newlywed couple in Winnipeg, Manitoba, were having their wedding pictures taken in the park on Saturday when a very familiar cyclist happened to ride past them: music legend Paul McCartney.

Jen Roscoe, 39, and her new husband, Steve Gregg, 38, were posing in their wedding garb when a friend spotted the former Beatle approaching, according to the Toronto Star.

This guy rides by on the bike and we sort of did a double take,” Gregg told the publication. “One of my groomsmen said, ‘Hey man, that’s Paul McCartney.’”

The 76-year-old singer had performed the night before at Winnipeg’s Bell MTS Place on his Freshen Up tour.

At first, the newlyweds weren’t going to approach McCartney, but when the singer reached a dead end on his bike trail and had to turn around, Roscoe and Gregg seized the opportunity.

Jen and I walked up to him and Jen asked him, ‘Hey, would you mind photobombing our wedding photos?’” the groom told the Star.

McCartney graciously agreed, and photographer Laurie Dixon immortalized the “crazy” moment.

In the photos, a congenial McCartney is dressed casually in a black puffer jacket, blue cap, and sunglasses. He then shook the couple’s hands, congratulated them, and rode off. Gregg called the quick encounter “absolutely surreal” and said the irony is that it wasn’t even the best part of his day. Though starstruck, Gregg and Roscoe say they aren’t the biggest Beatles fans.

For most people, it would have been a lifetime, awesome thing,” he told the publication. “And for me, I’m like, yeah, I got married today.”

Dixon was still stunned when she and her crew returned to their car.

It really doesn’t hit you until afterwards, to be honest,” the photographer said. “In the moment you’re thinking, ‘OK, let’s do this fast and get the photo and not take up too much of his time.’”

Later, she turned to her assistant, Tamara Large, and blurted out, “Holy crap, what just happened?”

She added that what could have been just a “really cool celebrity sighting” turned out to be an even more awesome celebrity encounter — and a once-in-a-lifetime photo op.

This isn’t the first time the good-natured McCartney has taken impromptu pictures with fans. In 2008, the singer was road-tripping on Route 66 with his wife, Nancy Shevell, when he stumbled upon five fans outside a gas station in Springfield, Ill., and playfully posed for a shot with the group.

While filming a “Carpool Karaoke” segment with The Late Late Show host James Corden in Liverpool in June, American Beatles fan Lance Mancuso — who was visiting the Beatles’ hometown for the first time — bumped into his idol. McCartney shook the fan’s hand and took a few candid pictures with him before continuing on.

And in 2014, McCartney truly photobombed, though it’s not clear whether the fan asked his permission first. The Daily Dot published a photo of the musician sitting on an outdoor bench with mogul Warren Buffett. In the forefront of the picture is teen Tom White giving the camera a thumbs-up.

For their part, Roscoe and Gregg are taking their encounter with an icon in stride. Gregg even laughed about the public’s fascination with his story.

It’s been a ridiculous amount of media coverage for something that happened for 20 seconds,” he joked.
