Patriots announce signing of Antonio Brown in most Patriots way possible
The New England Patriots and Antonio Brown couldn’t make their new relationship status transaction-wire official until Monday.
And since this is the Patriots and they don’t make anything public unless and until they absolutely must, they did so on Monday evening, once the signing had made it to the NFL’s transaction website.
While fans and league followers have been buzzing about Brown, the way he forced his way out of Oakland and his somewhat surprising signing by no-nonsense Bill Belichick, the team didn’t stray from its tried-and-true we-treat-everyone-the-same ways when it announced the signing on social media.

As for the details of the one-year contract, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported it has a base salary of $1 million (fully guaranteed), a $9 million signing bonus that will be split, with Brown getting $5 million now and $4 million “later,” and $500,000 total in 46-man roster bonuses.

There’s also an additional $4.5 million available in NLTBE (not likely to be earned) incentives — Brown can get $1.5 million each if he records 105 catches, 1,298 yards and/or 16 touchdowns — all of those numbers are one more catch/yard/touchdown than Brown recorded last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Patriots also included a 2020 option year at $20 million, which would be guaranteed if picked up by the team.
