After not earning a contract this summer, centre Brian Boyle has committed to the Florida Panthers eight games into their season.

The 34-year-old has played over 750 games for six different teams through his 12-year career, scoring a total of 124 goals and 216 points.

Most recently, the NHL veteran was part of the Nashville Predators in 2018-19 after a mid-season trade from the New Jersey Devils sent him to the championship-hopeful Central division team. Through 73 games between both clubs, Boyle scored 18 goals and 24 points — the second-most goals he has had in a season.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie has reported that the one-way deal is worth a total of $940,000.

To make room on the roster, the Panthers have sent young forward Henrik Borgstrom to the AHL. The 22-year-old has yet to score a point in the four games he’s played.

The former first-round selection will now play his second season as part of the Springfield Thunderbirds. Last season, he was able to score five goals and gather 22 points in 24 games with the Panthers’ affiliate.

The Panthers currently have a 3-2-3 record.
