Pamela Stephenson calls Michael Parkinson a 'daft old fart' after Billy Connolly comments
Pamela Stephenson and her husband Sir Billy Connolly have denied that the comedian’s ‘wonderful brain has dulled’, as Sir Michael Parkinson has claimed, following his diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease.
Parkinson, who memorably interviewed Connolly many times in TV, said in an interview on Saturday Morning with James Martin at the weekend that he had recently had a ‘sad and awkward’ experience with Connolly at an awards dinner.
“The sadness of Billy now is that wonderful brain is dulled,” said the 83-year-old presenter.
“I saw him recently – he’s now living in America – and it was very sad, because I was presenting him with a prize at an award ceremony.
“We had an awkward dinner together, because I wasn’t quite sure if he knew who I was or not.”
Parky added that Connolly had asked him ‘how long they had known each other’, which made him wonder whether Connolly recognised him at all.
But Stephenson has branded Parkinson a ‘daft old fart’ for making the comments, while Connolly has himself weighed in too.
“I would recognise Parky if he was standing behind me – in a diving suit,” said the comedian.
“Mike Parkinson is a daft old fart – doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Billy’s doing great and still funny as hell,” added Stephenson.
Connolly was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2013, but continues to work, currently shooting a documentary series in which he is touring around Scotland.
He admitted the same year that he had begin to struggle with memorising his lines.
