The days of having to bleach your brown hair in order to color it vibrant hues are long gone, and Overtone is about to drop a brand-new product to prove it. Its Purple for Brown Hair Deep Treatment and Daily Hair Conditioner won't be released until late January, but there is already a 4,000-person waitlist.
The indie hair-care brand has gained popularity over the past two years for its vegan, semi-permanent products which add color to your hair without bleach or dye. Most work best on blondes, but in 2017, Overtone started offering options specifically for brunettes. The new purple hue joins rose gold in the lineup of formulas for brown hair, which contain higher levels of pigmentation than the ones for light hair.
In the past, I've tried the Extreme Purple Deep Treatment on my dark hair in hopes of it giving me some color. After leaving it on for nearly an hour, the treatment gave my chocolate-brown curls a subtle Barney-esque tint when the light hit it. Even though the results were minimal, I was shocked by how soft the treatment made my hair, which tends to be on the drier side. Because it's spiked with hydrating ingredients like aloe and a slew of oils, the Deep Treatment doubles as a conditioning mask. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to seeing if the Purple for Brown Hair version gives my curls a more intense color than the last time. My fingers are crossed that it will help me achieve my dream hair color: Doyoung's grape tone in NCT's "Cherry Bomb" music video.
Starting January 23, you'll be able to shop the Purple For Brown Hair Deep Treatment ($29) and the Purple For Brown Hair Daily Conditioner ($18), or you can buy them as a set for $47.
Get them exclusively on overtone.co.
