From Town & Country

For the fifth season of Outlander, actress Caitriona Balfe stepped into the role of producer. And now, she's continuing her work behind-the-scenes, by optioning the rights to a Sarah Crossan’s new novel Here Is the Beehive.

“I am beyond thrilled that Sarah agreed to collaborate with me to bring her exciting and compelling novel to life for the screen,” Balfe said in a statement, per Deadline. “I was particularly drawn to her portrayal of a flawed, complex and wounded woman, navigating a tragic circumstance somewhat of her own creation.”

She'll be working alongside Ocean Independent, the production arm of talent agency Emptage Hallett on the project. Here's what else we know so far.

The story centers around an affair.

Crossan's novel, which revolves around the end of an illicit relationship, just hit the shelves in the UK, but American readers will have to wait until November, when it's scheduled for publication in the U.S. (Read a brief synopsis, which gives away a bit of the plot, here.)

“I am delighted Caitriona Balfe has acquired the film rights to Here Is the Beehive,” Crossan said. “Her vision is ambitious and daring as well as sensitive to the original text. I am excited to be working with her and her team over the coming months and years.”

Balfe is reportedly set to star in the film.

Per Deadline, "Sources close to Balfe say schedule and timing permitting, this is intended to be a starring vehicle for Balfe as well."

It's unclear if / how this would affect future seasons of Outlander.

But Balfe has filmed other projects (notably Ford vs. Ferrari) while continuing to star in the popular Starz drama in the past, so no need to worry just yet.
