Oscar Mayer Created A Truly Horrible Ice Cream Sandwich With Spicy Dijon Gelato And Candied Hot Dog Bits
Oscar Mayer just ruined my entire week by unveiling its latest creation: A hot dog-flavored ice cream sandwich with Spicy Dijon Mustard gelato and candied hot dog pieces. The brand announced the news in response to that other horrendous launch, that French's Mustard pint.
This feels like a deliberate attempt to permanently ruin my appetite, and I'm taking it extremely personal. Can we just let hot dogs be hot dogs and ice cream be ice cream?
Oscar Mayer took to Twitter Thursday to debut the questionably edible item, writing, "who eats just mustard @Frenchs? Condiments were made for Oscar Mayer hot dogs. Say hello to the Oscar Mayer Ice Dog Sandwich-flavored ice cream, made with our better hot dogs, sandwiched with spicy mustard." I'm annoyed at you for taking the bait Oscar, but really, French's deserves the blame here. They started it.
According to PEOPLE, the Ice Dog Sandwich is supposed to taste like the frozen form of this American classic. The hot dog-infused sweet cream with real candied hot dog pieces and dijon gelato is sandwiched between two cookie "buns," and per that original social media post, will actually be available for purchase.
The Oscar Mayer x il laboratorio del gelato collab is hitting New York City the week of August 12. The Weinermobile will get a little Ice Cream Truck-themed makeover and be serving up Ice Dogs for free. So if you see a giant, hot dog-shaped vehicle...run in the opposite direction?
