Brad William Henke – best known for playing Desi Piscatella in seasons four and five of the hit Netflix series, Orange Is The New Black – has passed away at the age of 56.
Speaking of the sad news to E! News, Henke's agent Sheree Cohen confirmed he had died in his sleep. However, an official cause of death has not yet been revealed.
"Brad was an incredibly kind man of joyous energy," the football star turned actor's manager, Matt DelPiano, added in a statement to E! News. "A very talented actor, he loved being a part of this community… and we loved him back. Our thoughts are with his wife and family."
During his time on Orange Is The New Black, Henke and the cast won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2016. He later said that the move from football to acting had been happenstance, but one he came to appreciate.
"I didn't know what to do with my life. Luckily, I needed money, so I jumped at being an extra football player in a commercial; they needed football extras in the back of the commercial," he said in 2021 while reflecting on his career move. "After that, someone invited me to an acting class, saw what they were doing there, started going to class, and I just loved it."
Henke is survived by his wife Sonja and his two stepchildren.
