Opening Ceremony Debuts Mickey Mouse Collection in Disneyland

One of the most anticipated NYC-based brands of the fashion month season, Opening Ceremony, opted out of showing in all the major cities this year. Instead, they chose California’s Disneyland as their stage, closing out Fashion Month as only they could— in the happiest place on earth with Mickey Mouse hitting the runway.

The show was a collaboration with Disney to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday (he looks good for his age doesn't he?). Set at night in the theme park, it was two-parts with the first looking like a traditional runway show and the second more of a nod to the Disney brand featuring Mickey inspired looks.

The first portion was all about the footwear. Models hit the runway wearing bright white knee-high boots that we could imagine Minnie Mouse wearing had she shopped at Opening Ceremony. Then, others walked the brick-laid catwalk wearing various glittery Birkenstocks. What followed was a suite of metallic platform shoes that gave new meaning to Dad sneakers.

As the first set of models left the runway, the segment was concluded in true Disney fashion with a full marching band and Mickey and Minnie Mouse break-dancing in their new Opening Ceremony outfits. But just when you thought it was over, more models emerged in full Mickey-branded looks, from cocktail dresses to athletic looks. There were sporty tracksuits, edgy cutout dresses, and even romantic maxi skirts and retro crop tops. Not only were there prints with the cartoons all over them, but there were also dresses and tops that boasted sleeves that actually looked like mouse ears. It’s safe to say that, no matter what your style, there was a Disney-inspired look for you.
