Welcome to Open Book: The Seventeen Book Club! If you are an avid reader and can’t stop seeing #BookTok videos pop up on your FYP, then you’re in the right place. Here at Seventeen, we believe that books are magical, transformative devices that hold the ability to introduce us to new places, cultures, and ideas. They maintain the capacity to explore beautiful stories about a range of topics, including first love, friendship, family, race, and identity.

With that said, we are so excited to dedicate a space to book lovers. We hope to diversify and expand your library, highlight established and emerging authors, and connect through a shared love of reading.

Each quarter, we will announce four book titles that are in the running to be our next book club read. Once we properly introduce each title and provide a brief synopsis, we will post a poll on Seventeen’s Instagram Stories (follow us here). Once the poll is up, vote for the book you’d like to read. Once voting is closed — the poll is live for 24 hours — we will announce the winner on our Stories.

What happens after the winner is announced? Buy the book or check it out from the library! Then join the Open Book Facebook group, where you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the book with fellow readers and ask questions.

Towards the end of the quarter, we will ask you to submit your questions, comments, and/or thoughts for the author. In a video interview with the author, we will go over these inquiries and will post the video here and on Seventeen’s social pages.

The first Open Book read is... I Guess I Live Here Now by Claire Ahn!

Melody Lee is a 16-year-old living in New York City — but after an incident after school one day, her parents decide to move her and her mother to Seoul, South Korea to live with her father. The move is immediate, and Melody hardly has the chance to say goodbye to her best friend. Although upset and frustrated over the sudden uprooting, she soon grows fond of all the perks of living in Seoul, i.e. the fashion, the food, the cool friends, the cute boys, and her dad’s credit card. But nothing is ever as good as it seems.

Author Claire Ahn grew up in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to the United States to attend college at New York University. I Guess I Live Here Now is her debut novel!
