Yahoo Sports’ Krysten Peek shares her evaluation of USC Trojans F Onyeka Okongwu.
KRYSTEN PEEK: Onyeka Okongwu played one year at USC and averaged 16.2 points and nearly three blocks per game. The 6' 9" forward had eight blocks in his first game of the season and shot up draft boards with his great rim protection and athleticism. Big O, as he called, played high school basketball with the Ball brothers at Chino Hills outside Los Angeles and has shown huge improvements in his perimeter defense with his 7' 2" wingspan.
Okongwu needs to work on his spot up shooting to become more of a threat at the next level. And at times he relies too much on his athleticism and settles for tough shots. His skill set reminds scouts of a young Montrezl Harrell with his motor and explosiveness. Okongwu is a potential top 10 draft pick this year and will be a defensive threat next season.
