Only Murders in the Building Season 3: Everything We Know About the Hulu Drama-Comedy
Only Murders in the Building, the Hulu drama-comedy starring Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, debuted as the most watched comedy series on the streaming platform during its 2021 premiere, and it’s showing no sign of ending soon. Weeks after season 2 began streaming on the digital platform on June 28, 2022, Deadline reported that Hulu has ordered another season of chaos, mystery, and yes, apparently more murders in the building. And on Oscar Sunday, March 12, Hulu dropped the first footage (which you can see below) of queen Meryl Streep as the newest cast member, and it's already iconic.
Here's everything we know so far about Only Murders in the Building season 3, which according to the latest press release in early March, is coming “soon.”
Gomez, Short, and Martin are all back. The true-crime-obsessed trio will reprise their roles as Arconia tenants Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), Mabel Mora (Gomez), and Oliver Putnam (Short). No word yet on whether season 2 stars Cara Delevingne (who shared a kiss onscreen with Gomez) or Nathan Lane will be returning.
There’s another murder in the Arconia. (Season 2 spoiler ahead!) The finale of the second season ends in yet another cliff-hanger, as Ben (Paul Rudd) appears to die while performing in a play opposite Charles.
Paul Rudd and Meryl Streep are joining the cast. Speaking of Paul Rudd…the actor who plays Ben in the finale of season 2 is also filming season 3.
On January 17, Gomez shared a short video of the OMITB season 3 cast, which includes a surprise appearance from the one and only Meryl Streep.
Martin also shared a photo of the cast to Instagram. In the shot, Streep wears her hair in loose braids.
And on March 12, we got our first footage of Streep and Rudd, and let's just say this season can't come soon enough.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter notes that Grey's Anatomy star Jesse Williams is also joining the show. On February 28, Gomez shared a photo of Williams on set with the caption “So @ijessewilliams is killing it on season 3 guys.” Interesting word choice for a show with “murder” in its title!
All signs point to the show’s continuation. “Only Murders in the Building is the true crown jewel of our slate,” Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment president Craig Erwich said in a press release announcing the third season. “Its appeal across generations, the intersection of humor and heart, and its truly original approach are a hallmark of and testament to Dan, John, Steve, Marty, and Selena’s work. We are grateful to be able to continue telling the stories of Charles, Oliver and Mabel to viewers that have consistently shown us they crave more of this story.”
During the press tour for the show, Martin joked to Variety that they want to continue the show until they're old and gray: “Until I’m in a walker, that’s how long I’d like to do it.” Based on the looks of it, it doesn't seem that season 3 will be the show's last.
