This story contains spoilers for the Season Two finale of Only Murders in the Building.

Only Murders in the Building spun a lot of threads this season. Glitter guy! The weird Mabel obsession we saw from Cara Delevingne’s character. A nude painting of Charles’s father? The mean new building president, Nina Lin?? Greek dip guy being the father of Oliver’s son??? Remember Amy Schumer?!

Somehow, most of that came together in a moderately satisfying season finale, which is now streaming on Hulu. Cinda Canning’s true crime podcasting assistant, Poppi, was so damn fame hungry that she actually committed a murder for the sake of a podcast plot. Poor Bunny. In an epic set-up—I really thought Charles was dead for a minute there—the twist offered a smart poke at this generation’s unhealthy obsession with true crime. (Guilty.) What the Only Murders in the Building finale didn't do, however, is tie up several of the above-mentioned plotlines. Even if it had, though? It wouldn't have saved us from the many midseason episodes where nothing much at all seemed to happen. Whereas Season One of Only Murders in the Building smartly wove together several Arconia mysteries, Season Two is stuffed with too many decoys. We spent way too much time with Nina Lin for her to be totally irrelevant to Bunny's death.

But there's a chance for redemption yet. Even with Poppi and her corrupt police officer lover safely put away, you can’t keep Oliver, Mabel, and Charles away from a crime scene for long. This season ends with a scene set one year after the gang solved Bunny’s murder, on opening night of Oliver’s Broadway play. Before the curtain, there seems to be some tension brewing backstage between the two leads, Charles and Paul Rudd (!?). Then, right when the show begins, Paul Rudd drops dead on stage. If I can make an educated guess based on Season Two, it seems that Charles has been set up as a murder suspect this coming time around.

Luckily, Hulu’s murder mystery hit has already been renewed for a third season. Oliver, Charles, and Mabel just might have to change the name of their podcast for Season Three, though, since Paul Rudd did not die at the Arconia. Though perhaps he was poisoned there? Only time will tell.
